Julie Kondo is Berlin-based Product Design Director.
Product Design Director, GoEuro
March 2018 - Present
At GoEuro, I lead the end-to-end experience and design for the core product. I also manage a team of 4 talented and amazing designers who make my job easier in pushing forward the product vision and doing great work. I believe collaboration and supporting one another is key to a successful team. That's why I make sure we design as a unit and think of systems over screens.
I also help recruit new hires and create a culture of user-centricity within the organization. We started as a tech startup and grew to 300 strong in only five years. I'm part of an exciting transformation in growing the company and driving toward our mission of making travel easy for all.
How I work
Research. Problem-solving begins with understanding our users.
Collaborate. I believe we are stronger together than apart.
Communicate. Designers must be able to explain the value of what they do.
Freelance UX Consultant
May 2017 - Feb 2018
I ran my own freelance consultancy and focused on offering UX services to startups and entrepreneurs.
I worked with Remine, a real estate startup based in the U.S., where I helped them build their first CRM tool from the ground up. As an independent consultant, I used my strategic background to be a partner and advisor to the team. I conducted user and stakeholder interviews, did sketches and prototypes, facilitated usability tests, analyzed and presented test findings, and designed the visual system and templates for the entire application.

Associate UX Director, Huge
Feb 2012 - July 2016
Huge is a full-service digital agency. I partnered with clients on digital strategy and design for some of their biggest initiatives. I’ve brought my customer-centric mindset and UX skills to a number of well-respected companies across different industries, from Consumer Goods to Personal Finance.
2016. I partnered with P&G's billion-dollar beauty brand, SK-II, to shape their digital transformation strategy and rollout as a customer-centric and multichannel company.
2014-15. I led the UX design of Credit Suisse's first private banking app. Made for their valuable high-net worth clients in Asia, this app was the first in the industry to provide full fledged digital self service and relationship management in the Private Banking space.
2013. I was designated UX Lead for Google's Think Insights product, where I led the research and design of new features.
2012. I worked as Senior Interaction Designer on Comcast’s mobile My Accounts project, where I designed the company’s first mobile bill pay and self-service portal.

I’ve also been a few other things.
Product Developer at Nickelodeon. From 2008-2012, I made apps for kids at Nickelodeon, where I designed wireframes and brought fun ideas to life. User research consisted of sitting on a playroom floor and making pipe cleaner prototypes with 7-year-olds.
UX Teacher. I’ve collaborated with General Assembly in New York and Singapore to teach UX classes. I’ve also run workshops with the Institute of Advertising in Singapore, and have hosted some meetups during my time at Huge Singapore.
Underwear Designer. In 2008, I worked for a New York-based underwear and fashion brand called Undergirl. There was a time when you could buy underwear that I designed at stores like Urban Outfitters and K-mart.
I’m a Japanese girl born and raised in the U.S., but have also lived in Singapore and Chile, and now I’m in Berlin. I move so much because I’m driven by an insatiable curiosity to discover new things and meet new people.
I speak three languages and am learning a fourth. I prefer dogs to cats and mountains to beaches. I’m currently open to new job opportunities and teaching gigs. It would be lovely to hear from you if you’re up for a chat.
